Corning Hospital offers a warm setting with experienced staff on hand everyday who are prepared for the delivery of your child. We strive to provide a comfortable childbirth experience for you and your new family addition. The medical and nursing staff and are prepared to answer your questions and provide you with the highest level of childbirth care. All of our nurses are cross-trained in labor and delivery, post partum, and nursery care to provide you with continuous care throughout your stay.
Our facility includes 2 comfortable labor and delivery rooms, 2 beautifully decorated birthing rooms, and private single post partum rooms.

FOR THE SAFETY OF YOU and YOUR BABY:
If necessary, The Birthplace physicians are able to perform cesarean sections right on the unit in the OB Operating room with recovery in the OB PACU.
Corning Hospital offers a variety of classes to prepare you and your whole family for the new arrival.
Parents-to-be enter a very exciting time in their lives as they prepare for the arrival of a new baby. Though they may often feel that they don't know everything they should about childbirth, they need not be discouraged. Most people -especially first-time parents - have many questions and concerns. That's why Corning Hospital offers a variety of support services and childbirth classes to ready parents-to-be - and their whole family - for their exciting experience.
Our multi-disciplinary staff includes all the physicians featured below and registered nurses specializing in obstetrics and gynecology with years of experience with expectant parents and newborn care.
Our childbirth educators - all nurses from our Birthplace staff - will tell you everything you need to know to prepare for a safe and satisfying childbirth experience. Pre-registration Is required.
To ensure a hassle-free admission, we ready all admitting paperwork and pre-admission testing between week 37-38 of pregnancy. This means that when you come to the hospital in labor and are ready to begin your childbirth experience, neither you nor partner needs to get bogged down with admitting paperwork. Your pre-admission appointment also gives you a first-hand look at our lovely Birthplace facilities.
We also provide support after the baby goes home. Dial-A-Mom, a 24 hour phone line for new moms and dads is your opportunity to talk to a Corning Hospital Nursery nurse when you have questions about how to care for the newest member of your family!

Consultations
Our childbirth educators will tell you what you need to know to prepare for a safe and satisfying childbirth experience. All of our childbirth educators are registered nurses who work at The Birthplace and have years of experience with expectant parents.
Classes
Our classes are open to all expectant parents, regardless of the hospital in which they plan to deliver.
Early Pregnancy
A single evening class that provides vital information on taking care of yourself and your unborn baby in the early months of your pregnancy.

Breastfeeding
A single evening class to inform expectant parents about the advantages of breastfeeding. A videotape is shown and many informative brochures are available. An excellent opportunity to ask questions and explore options.

Parenting
A two week series that provides expectant parents with instructions for basic infant care, growth and development, well baby checkups, immunizations, safety, sick baby & infant CPR or choking.

A single evening class for those planning a vaginal birth after a cesarean section.

Lamaze
A five-week series that instructs expectant mothers and their coaches in breathing and relaxation techniques that will help them manage their labor experience. Also discussed are the labor/delivery cycle, options for pain relief, exercises, cesarean section, post partum and new born care. Teaching methods include a tour, videos, group discussion, reading materials and practice sessions. Expectant parents should plan to begin class in the seventh month of pregnancy.

Sibling
Prospective big brothers and sisters will tour the Maternity Unit to see where the new baby will be born. An education video, art activity, and refreshments complete the program.

Lamaze Refresher
A three-week course offered to expectant parents who have already experienced childbirth. A general review of labor/delivery, postpartum and newborn care, with concentration on breathing and relaxation techniques.

Young Adult Lamaze
A five week course specifically for teen mom and coach tailored after our Lamaze classes.

Children will be oriented to the Labor/Delivery unit and to the birth process so that they may be present for the birth of their sibling.

Water Babies
Sponsored by HealthWorks Wellness and Fitness Center
Water babies is a fun, social experience for children under the age of 3 to feel comfortable in the water and begin important motor skills.
- Saturday mornings from 9 - 10 a.m.
- For children between the ages of 3 months and 3 years.
- Fee: $4.00 members/ $8.00 non-members (per visit)
