Meet Our Guthrie Cancer Center Staff...
Gary Proulx, MD, has joined Guthrie Cancer Center as the chairman of radiation oncology. He comes to Guthrie Cancer Center from Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York, where he was the clinical chief of gastrointestinal radiation and an associate clinical chief of genitourinary radiation. Dr. Proulx earned his undergraduate degree from Columbia University in New York City and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston. He completed an internship in surgery/medicine at the MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham, Massachusetts, and a residency and clinicalfellowship in radiation oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Proulx has held a number of academic appointments, most recently as an associate professor in the department of radiation medicine at Roswell Park. He is board-certified in radiation oncology. Dr. Proulx researches and publishes regularly, and is a member of the American Society for Clinical Oncology, the American Brachytherapy Society and others. He has served in the National Guard Medical Corps as an Army captain and physician.
Sydney Welt, MD, has joined Guthrie Cancer Center as a hematologist/oncologist. He comes to Guthrie Cancer Center from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York, where he was a hematologist/oncologist.
Dr. Welt earned his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Columbia College in New York, New York, and his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine, also in New York. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. He completed a fellowship in medical oncology at Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and a research fellowship in immunobiology at Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research. He is an associate professor of medicine at Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Welt also researches and publishes extensively, and holds patents on numerous medical products.
He is board-certified in internal medicine and oncology and is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

All patient care is conducted in conjunction with your referring primary physician.
Our oncologists are available to consult with referring physicians 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Once therapy is completed, our patients are referred back to the referring physician.
