Volunteering:
Meeting Your Needs. . . . . . And Ours.

Unique service opportunities!

Reception Desk:
Work at the lobby desk, escort patients to their rooms; deliver mail, flowers, and newspapers. Greet visitors, and answer questions. This is definitely a public relations area.

Hours daily: 9am-9pm

Gift Shop Volunteers:
Staff the hospital gift shop. Assist in the many duties involved in selling, packaging, keeping the stock replenished, and operating the cash register. This is also an area with much visitor/staff contact.

Hours daily: 8:30am-9pm / Weekends 11-3

Pre-Admission Testing:
Co-ordinate and guide patients and paperwork through the pre-admission testing process.

Hours: 8:30am-4:30pm / Mon-Fri

Children's Tour:
Conduct tours for young school children to familiarize them with the hospital.

Hours: January-May

Special Care:
Receptionist for ICU, ASU, and Recovery Room, to assist staff, patients, and patients families. Relay pertinent information to family members, hospital staff and other units as necessary.

Hours: Mon-Fri / 8:30-12:30 & 12:30-4:30

Publication Assembly:
Meet periodically to assemble mailings, brochures, and special projects for the hospital.

As needed

Emergency Room:
Assist Emergency Room staff in running errands, transferring patients, clerical duties, changing linens, and assisting family members.

Hours: Flexible

HPRP (Hospital Patient Representative):
Visit patients, offer non-medical services, and help make their stay as comfortable as possible. Provide information concerning Corning Hospital and forward special requests to the proper department.

Hours: Flexible

Nursing Volunteers:
Assist nurses and staff, visit patients, pass ice water, and run errands.

Hours: Flexible

Clerical:
Assist in office work, answering phones, typing, filing, computer input and other duties as needed.

Hours: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm

Junior Volunteers:
Must be 14 years or older. May be assigned to a nursing floor or to a department that has a need for volunteers, based on their individual abilities.

Hours: Flexible

Physical Therapy:
Prepare treatment rooms for patients, transport patients in wheelchairs, run errands for staff.

Hours: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm

Floating Ward Clerk:
Transport orders, and deliver medications between nursing floors and the pharmacy. Perform other deliveries as requested.

Hours: Mon-Fri 8:30am-11:30 & 11:30-2:30

Fundraising:
Work on various fund-raising events such as card parties, New Years Eve Gala, bake sales or art auctions. Many different responsibilities to choose from.

Membership:
Recruitment and retention of volunteers for the auxiliary. Encourage people to join us in our endeavors and create events to encourage involvement.

Public Relations:
Be involved in the publicizing of all events associated with the Auxiliary. Write press releases and work with a Public Relations committee.

Education/Advocacy:
Be involved in various projects that are either Educational by nature or that provide Advocacy to the community on behalf of the Auxiliary.

Newsletter:
Help in the preparation and distribution of the newsletter designed to inform volunteers of events the Auxilians are involved with.

Telephone:
Take telephone calls to Auxilians, to inform them of upcoming events, to conduct polls, remind members of meetings, or other things that may be helpful to the general membership.

Historian:
Clip articles and press releases that pertain to the Auxiliary. Keep a record of all Auxiliary activities.

Legislative:
Peruse the legislative correspondence that comes to the Auxiliary. Help raise awareness in the community of new and proposed legislation that may affect the hospital.
