Telemetry
What is telemetry? It is a heart monitor that the doctor has prescribed for you to wear. It is like a battery operated radio that has three patches and connecting wires that will be placed on your chest or back to transmit your heart rhythm to the Intensive Care Unit. Nurses or technicians will be watching your heart rhythm at all times. If a patch or wire comes off or loosens, someone will come to your room to reattach it. When you have an abnormal heart beat or if something different shows up on the monitor, a nurse will come in and check your blood pressure and pulse.
Do not ...
- take the monitor off.
- leave the floor without notifying the staff.
- use powder or spray near the monitor.
- take a shower with the monitor on.
- get the monitor wet.
- drop the monitor.
Do ...
- tell the nurse if you have pain, pressure, discomfort or fluttering in your chest.
- tell the nurse if you have pain in your face, jaw, arms, neck or back.
- tell the nurse if you feel like you are going to pass out or are dizzy.
- tell the nurse if your skin gets red and itchy by the patches.
- tell the nurse if you get the monitor wet.
